SEVEN DAYS AND COUNTING...

Next Friday I shall be keeping the Birmingham Science Fiction Group entertained as I give this month's talk, or in my case, something more akin to stand-up comedy. I hope. Break out the Ansell's Mild and Pork Scratchings, cos here I come...

(Actually I'm a teetotal vegetarian these days, which is probably a result of the above.)

Hi i was wondering if you were going to publish the third and final book of the tristopolis trilogy, also i had a few questions about the characters within the books if you were willing to answer.

Hi Collin -

I'm not ruling out a return to Tristopolis, but I've no plans for a third book. Neither my British nor American publishers have shown interest in such a project. Without a contract in place, I can't afford to spend time writing a book that might not get published. My writing in general is going well, of course... I've had three books published since Dark Blood/Black Blood, and handed in a fourth.

The one time I've written a novel without a contract as a side project, it did not turn out well - that was New Jerusalem, not strictly SF or fantasy, and not commercially viable (it seems) during the current political climate. The geopolitics in the book are very different from this reality, but that turns out not to help...

Feel free to ask questions, and I'll answer those I can. (I do know what happens next, sort of, so I'll avoid potential spoilers just in case I do write a third book.) Go for it!

...Oh, I should add, it was never planned or marketed as a trilogy. It was always a two-book deal.

Which I guess means that ending the second book on a cliffhanger was my bad. But... I couldn't help it!

First i would like to say excellent books, your graphic detailing of each scene paints an extremely vivid picture. I was just wondering if there is a chance for the return of Laura Steele, I only ask because in the world of Tristopolis stranger events have occurred.

Hey c... That's a very intriguing thought. Laura is in Donal's heart, as you're no doubt aware...

Whatever happens, I'll try to keep it vivid. Thank you!
